Mad Trapper Marine Ltd. is pleased to bring to the marketplace the new 16’6” “Phantom”.
The Phantom is built using marine grade aluminum that is plasma cut for precise fit-up. It is an all-welded design using pre-bend technology to ensure the greatest strength possible while keeping the weight to a minimum.
Some of the features found on the Phantom sets this boat apart from the competition when it comes to a smaller boat. The bottom is 3/16 thick with a complete reverse chine running from the stern right to the bow. You won’t find this on many of the competitors’ smaller boats (or larger ones for that matter). They’re made from 1/8th or less and do not incorporate the reverse chine because of the one sheet construction method that many manufacturers use to keep their cost down.
The integrity and shape is also further enhanced by two large box type stringers which run the full length of the boat. The hull itself is built using an integral intake tunnel that allows the pump intake to sit above the bottom of the boat, thus protecting it from rocks and any other debris. The bow section is reinforced by a large, formed, bow pan.
In designing the Phantom, it was decided that this would not be a flat bottomed boat like so many jet boats are. We wanted a boat that would offer comfort in rough water, a boat that will turn when you turn the steering wheel, but most importantly: a boat that inspires confidence and is fun to drive. This was achieved by going to a 12 degree dead rise, delta pad keel and full length reverse chine. We achieved all this and the Phantom is still a very capable shallow water boat, needing only 4-6 inches of water when planing.
We looked at different engine options and decided to go with the outboards. The choice was simple: The outboard means there is a lot more useable space inside the boat, the intake can be raised to clean it of debris such as weeds and sticks. The impeller and liner are very easy to get at for replacement. The boat can be trimmed for best ride and fuel efficiency.
Mad Trapper Marine Ltd. has teamed up with Mercury Marine to supply engines to power our boats. The four stroke, fuel injected 60/40hp or the larger 100/65hp give excellent performance in a quiet and fuel efficient package.
